ipodtouch-heroMe!Smile I want this, was my first thought as I saw the keynote presentation from Steve Jobs. Especially as I heard that it will be officially available in Hong Kong. Well now you can buy the iPhone 3G for more than a month and I still don't have one, and probably I'll never buy one. Why? I already have a mobile phone and I have an iPod Touch. That's two devices that more or less do the same as the iPhone.

See below differences between the iPhone 3G and an iPod Touch, please note this is not a detailed analysis:

Phone Functions Pretty Good Don't exist
Mobile Internet Everywhere, where you can use the phone you can use Internet, but speed varies. Only available when you are near a WiFi Hotspot or your Wireless Router at Home or in the office.
GPS Yes No
Custom Applications Yes Yes, some obviously don't work on the iPod, because it has no speaker no vibration, no GPS and no phone functions.
Price

Cheapest tariff for 16 GB model:

HKD 3738+188*24=

HKD 8250 or HKD 6200 in the Apple store

 HKD 2400 for 16GB Model

All other function are the same, i.e. email, webbrowser, Music Player, Video Player.

So the iPhone has more functions but you pay almost double the price and you have to sign a 2 years contract. Is it worth the difference? Well if you need email and internet always, immediately probably. If you can wait until you reach the next WiFi Hotspot you should consider the iPod Touch.

Tomorrow I'll write about an Application that will make the distance between 2 Hotspots look much shorter, because you can look at some websites without being online.
