Air Sharing and DataCase are the two Apps I have to store and view files on an iPhone/iPod Touch. They both work good but have different strong and weak points.

Check our database for latest price/version changes (Air Sharing, DataCase). You can find more reduced Apps here.

Let's take a look:

Use the function connect to server and enter the URL Air Sharing displays, e.g.: http://192.168.0.10:8080.

Viewable filetypes
  • Here the list from their website, I haven't tried them all:
  • iWork (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote), full resolution if saved with preview
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), with limited support for XML formats
  • Web Archive (web-page downloads packaged by Safari)
  • Web page
  • PDF
  • HTML
  • RTF (Rich Text Format)
  • RTFD (TextEdit documents with embedded images)
  • Plain text (many different file extensions), with Unicode support
  • Source code (C/C++, Objective C/C++, C#, Java, Javascript, XML, shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python, and more), with color-coded formatting
  • Movie (standard iPhone formats: H.264, MPEG-4, 3GPP, etc.)
  • Audio (standard iPhone formats: MP3 VBR, AAC, Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, CAF, etc.)
  • Image (standard iPhone formats: GIF, PNG, JPG, TIFF, etc.)

They have no list on their website, but you check the iTunes store, i.e.the usual filetypes the iPhone/iPod Touch support.

Resume reading Saves where you left the document and automacilly goes there, when you open the same document again. Saves where you left the document and automacilly goes there, when you open the same document again.
Bookmarks: You can have several named bookmarks for one document
Missing features

Can't hide taskbar etc

Doubletap doesn't return to a full width view (like Safari). Doesn't sound bad, but for me most annoying.

Both Apps work very well and I hardly noticed any crashes, file copying has about the same speed.

DataCase connects easier to a Mac, because it supports AFP, but overall Air Sharing has the advantage at the moment. Especially with this special introductory price: FREE. But it's even worth paying US$ 6.99 for this.
