Today iStorage (iTunes Link) from Lukas Foldyna was released which is the first App (Correction: As some commenter mentioned this is not the first App: Caravan was first) for the iPhone/iPod Touch that supports downloads from web-sites. But unfourtunately I couldn't get it to work, either I got a cryptical error code or the App crashed. And I really tried many web-sites!
iStorage is more than a download client, here is a quick feature list:
- WebDAV server on the iPhone, so you can upload/download files, same as Air Sharing.
- FTP Client, can upload and download files.
- Included Web-browser which you should use for downloads. But as already mentioned, I couldn't download any file.
- Download Manager
- Text Editor to edit plain text files or source code
- Upload to FTP
- Renaming of files
That's a long list of features but really working are only the WebDAV server and renaming of files. Viewing of files on the iPhone/iPod Touch also works but iStorage does not save the page number which was last read. So you better look at DataCase or Air Sharing if you need this.
So for now I can only say don't buy it, just too many bugs and problems. The App has some potential and interesting features, so hopefully the developer will fix this soon.
